Derick Samonek [email protected]

    I’m Derick Samonek, a United States Marine Corps veteran and the Head Swim and Women’s Water Polo Coach at California High School in San Ramon. I lead programs serving over 100 student-athletes, with a focus on swim instruction, sports coaching, athlete development, and building a positive, disciplined team culture.

    Outside the high school season, I’ve served as the Head Swim Coach for the City of Dublin’s Green Gators summer program, where I led and managed a large, multi-age competitive team while overseeing coaching staff, training plans, and team operations.

    In addition, I’m a Co-Marketing Director and Coach with Triton Aquatics, supporting athlete development and program growth through coaching, web design, marketing, and digital media. I’m a graduate of San Francisco State University with a background in design and marketing, which helps shape my organized, detail-oriented approach to coaching and communication.

    I’m passionate about creating a supportive, competitive environment where athletes can grow both in and out of the water.

    Monica Beltran, Assistant Coach [email protected] 

    Monica graduated last May from Cal State East Bay where she swam NCAA Division 2 for all 4 years. She is the Head Coach of the San Ramon Aqua Bears, was Assistant Coach for SRVA and Crow Canyon swims teams, and is now in her 3rd year as assistant coach for the Cal High swim team.

    Monica grew up swimming competitively with SRVA, and also Cal High. In her spare time she enjoys playing video games and hiking with her dog Luna. Monica is looking forward to coaching with us again this year!

    I swam and played water polo for Cal High from 2000-2004. I started my coaching career with the San Ramon Aquacats as the 9-10 and 11-12 age group coach. I spendt the last 4 years as the head coach at Skyridge High School in Lehi Utah where the men were bak to back state champions in 2023 & 2024.

    My motto as a coach is that 'individual success is a team effort.' Each swimmer must motivate themselves and each other and hold each other accountable for the well being of the whole team. I look forward to working with Derick and Monica and having a great season.
